[sic]
This piece, with its varied physical structures, deals with a range of issues concerning life forces, liminal membranes, protection, and improper replications. The title, taken from the verb to sic, is on the one hand an imperative used to incite attack. Written in brackets, [sic], it also denotes that a word or phrase which might appear incorrect has been written intentionally or has been quoted verbatim. With this, subsequent translations may omit the disclaimer, thereby firmly establishing the flawed information and carrying it forward. This process of replicating improper data is reflected by the manner in which a disease such as cancer proliferates; this in turn relates back to the cyclical nature of the homophonic title: the state of being sick as a result of a glitched action as well as having had cells, in a manner of speaking, sic-ed upon.
